Pre AP English II (Period 1)
Course Description
Prepares task-oriented, proficient readers, and highly- motivated writers for success in our high school’s Advanced Placement program. Analysis of world literature will include in-depth review of complex devices and rhetorical strategies. Students will be required to use sophisticated language to persuasively analyze literature during class discussion and for in-class timed writing and process essays. Projects and formal presentations will also be included during the year. Major literary selections may include, but are not limited to, the following: Our Town, Julius Caesar, Antigone, Lord of the Flies, Night, and Fahrenheit 451. Students will be expected to analyze reading material for tone, style and rhetorical strategies. Students will also be expected to apply these techniques in their own writing. The course will include a summer reading list.
